Open Frame Sirius – An Innovative Concept in Energy Storage
In order to expand our market penetration in diverse industries, without spending a lot of money, we have developed the concept of “Open Frame Sirius”. A storage device is a DC device while most applications operate on AC.
For example, storage devices connect to inverters in solar applications (converting DC to AC for our homes) or rectifiers when connected to diesel generators (converting AC to DC to charge the storage). These are developed applications and storage can be sold as stand-alone products in these market segments.
However, there are countless applications in many industries that require customization of conversion electronics to deploy storage. Application engineers in these industries design solutions using battery cells and combine them with their own power electronics.
Since we don’t sell supercap cells (like battery cells), the Open Frame Sirius solution is a supercap based storage pack (with Kilowatt Labs’s proprietary supercap cell control electronics and communication software), which an application engineer can use to design an industry specific solution.
The idea is to license the Open Frame Sirius for a particular industry for a specific application which allows the Company to (1) sell the supercap packs once these are developed and (2) charge a license fee with “Sirius Inside” branding on the end product. We are launching a couple of pilots to test the concept.
